COMMERCIAL LAWYER (IP/MEDIA/NEWS)

NQ+, LONDON

TEMP TO PERM/PERM

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a recently qualified lawyer (NQ-2 years' PQE) to join this News channel, which is part of a major media brand. It has global reach stretching from EMEA to AsiaPac and its vast portfolio of digital products provides real-time market data to a global audience.

You will work with the VP, Business & Legal Affairs, assisting and executing business and legal affairs functions for all aspects of our client's EMEA business.

A sample of responsibilities includes:

Commercial Matters

Assisting with the drafting of documentation relating to all activities of the business, including distribution agreements, service agreements, licensing agreements, barter agreements, advertising and sponsorship sales agreements, agreements for third party advertising and distribution reps, and production agreements.

Intellectual property

An understanding of concepts of trade mark law and copyright principles such as "fair dealing / "fair use" and being able to advise the editorial teams on questions that are raised. Advising and assisting with enforcement of the business' IP rights and brands.

Editorial

Advising on the regulatory environment including the requirements of the Ofcom Broadcasting Code, the BCAP Code and the ASA Codes in relation to programming, advertising and sponsorship.

Dispute Resolution

Supporting the VP, Business & Legal Affairs, when resolving potential or actual disputes.

Compliance

Ensuring compliance with laws and regulatory requirements in EMEA (including FCPA and Bribery Act requirements), ensuring implementation of internal policies and providing assistance and training to facilitate compliance with such laws, regulations and policies. Working with the business to ensure all Intermediary Management System requirements are met when appointing third party representatives.

Any experience gained in any of the following disciplines -IP, media, licensing contracts or advertising- will be welcome. It's a given that you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of the principles of contractual and commercial law. You will be motivated by the prospect of working for an international media business in EMEA and must be a self-starter who relishes the prospect of being part of a fast-paced current affairs company.
