Job Details

Our client is a global banking entity that works with developing countries to strengthen their economies by offering a range of financial products and advisory services.

A pioneer in sustainable investments with a strong and growing commitment to green investment, this institution is now seeking an experienced capital markets lawyer with excellent leadership qualities to join their established legal team, reporting directly to the Deputy General Counsel.

This is both a transactional and strategic role. Through the supervision and guidance of a small, stable team of experienced lawyers, and by partnering closely with the Banking and Treasury teams, the successful candidate will act as the subject matter expert on a range of capital markets transactions, as well as advising high-level internal and external stakeholders on legal policy and procedure.

For this highly-visible role, we are looking for a seasoned lawyer that is a natural problem solver and can effectively allocate the resources of their team to meet the needs of the business.

More specifically, you will:

  • Assist in the development of new and innovative financial instruments;
  • Participate in inter-departmental working groups in order to develop policies and deliver on strategic initiatives;
  • Provide advice to various management committees;
  • Present legal policy developments in global finance forums and relay relevant external developments to the business and legal teams;
  • Manage the interface with local counsel in partnering, foreign markets to execute deals effectively.

We are looking for the following technical skill sets:

  • Over 12+ years PQE;
  • Extensive experience working on structured and vanilla capital markets transactions (e.g. derivatives, bond issuances, structured finance/products);
  • Any kind of emerging markets experience would be most welcome.

We are also looking for the following softer skill sets:

  • A proven track-record of managing a legal team;
  • Solid leadership skills;
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with senior management;
  • Someone with an international perspective who is culturally agile, who is able to work with people from a broad range of countries and cultures, and successfully navigate any differences.

Our client is open to submissions from UK or other Commonwealth or foreign-qualified lawyers in civil or common law that may be based domestically or overseas. In-house experience is preferred.

This is a rare and unique opportunity for a senior lawyer to manage a team and play an integral role in helping an organisation develop economies and deliver on its core principle of ethical investment.
