JOB DESCRIPTION
Your new company
The Energy Innovation Centre has been established for the past decade and, thanks to continued growth and success, we have a vacancy for an experienced Legal Counsel to work in a varied role, in a truly collaborative and engaging environment. You will be based in Ellesmere Port, in a modern and open-plan office, working in a location that is easily commutable from Merseyside and Cheshire areas including Liverpool, Wirral, Knowsley, Sefton, St Helens, Skelmersdale, Wigan, Ormskirk, Warrington, Runcorn and Widnes.
Your new role
You will join the business as Legal Counsel and Company Secretary, in a key strategic appointment, with a direct reporting line to the Managing Director. You will be responsible for day to day contract matters, which in brief includes drafting and reviewing commercial agreements and advising on Intellectual Property matters plus any general and varied ad hoc legal matters. You will manage a small legal team and you will also work very closely with the Board of Directors in relation to legal, compliance and corporate governance matters.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be a UK qualified solicitor, barrister or chartered legal executive, ideally with at least 3 years' experience in commercial contracts. It is likely that you will already have worked as an in-house lawyer so that you can add immediate value. Given the nature of the business, it is helpful, although not essential, that you have had some exposure to a regulated business and/or in the utilities sector. It is important that you can work seamlessly with the management board, the wider business as well as external advisors as well as being able to provide support and development to the existing legal team.
What you'll get in return
This is a rare in-house legal appointment offering a truly supportive and flexible working pattern with flexible start times and some home working. The company is successful, and you can enjoy operating at a senior level within the organisation. This could be an ideal move for an experienced solicitor looking for flexibility in a positive working environment or somebody looking to make their first move in-house. The salary offered will be in line with your experience in the £40k - £50k bracket with an excellent benefits package including 10% employer contribution into a non-contributory personal pension plan, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, free parking, private medical insurance, professional subscription fees and flexible working hours; part-time working is also an option.
