Commercial Lawyer

A Commercial Lawyer with 0- 2 years PQE is sought to join our in-house legal team based in Central London. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate who is possibly looking to make their first move in-house and grow within a supportive team.

Mears Group PLC is a highly successful company within the social housing repairs and maintenance, domiciliary care and construction industry.

You will provide legal and strategic advice to the business on commercial matters, assist in negotiating and drafting commercial and construction documents, provide commercial and practical solutions on a broad range of legal issues and a high level of customer satisfaction to both internal and external clients.  You will advise on, draft and negotiate a range of commercial contracts including  bespoke and standard forms of contracts at an early stage at the procurement process. You will also advise on risk management issues and compliance with all statutory obligations. Experience of property matters will be useful although not essential.

This is a varied role, advising across a diverse range of group companies and sectors including care services, information technology, projects/ energy, new developments and housing management. You will assist the Head of Group Legal / Group Commercial Solicitor with a wide range of commercial matters and work as part of a larger in-house team with exposure to other practice areas including litigation, property and employment. You will be expected to provide supervision and training to junior members of the Legal Department.

Candidates must have experience of working in commercial law,  technically excellent but, equally important, commercially aware with outstanding inter-personal skills. You will have a strong academic background and excellent communication and organisational skills.  Ideally you will have experience of working within an in-house environment and/or a background in social housing/outsourced service provision to the public sector.
