Fast track your career.
The Government Legal Department (GLD) is a place to practise like no other. As the largest provider of legal services across government, we work on unique and high profile projects of unrivalled variety. From roads to rivers, and health to human rights, our work touches on most aspects of public life. This is your chance to make a lasting difference as you act in the public good.
Our highly motivated and dynamic lawyers provide support to the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Rail and High Speed Rail Groups. The work is often high-profile with significant media and political interest, and projects include the Williams Rail Review, High Speed 2, Crossrail, the InterCity Express programme delivering the next generation of intercity trains, and the rail refranchising programme. One of our teams was recently named In-house infrastructure team of the year by the Legal 500 for work on the West Coast Partnership, paving the way for future HS2 operations. You will be directly involved in planning and delivering the railway of the future.
To thrive in our dynamic political environment, you’ll need to be proactive, adaptable and creatively minded. Given the nature of the Government’s rail programme, we’re particularly interested in hearing from candidates with commercial law expertise.
GLD is a supportive and happy place to work, offering a challenging and exciting career. We are truly committed to flexible working and providing a work/life balance for our teams, along with offering attractive benefits.
