Commercial Legal Counsel

Hunter is seeking to recruit a Commercial Legal Counsel to perform a prominent role within Hunter’s legal team advising on legal issues mainly affecting our B2C business such as those relating to eCommerce, retail (stores), consumer matters, digital marketing, social media and data protection as well as general corporate and commercial matters. This role will involve managing legal issues across the Hunter business both in the UK and internationally.
Day to day responsibilities will include drafting and negotiating a range of contracts applicable to the business activities of the eCommerce, Retail, Digital Marketing, Social Media and Customer Services Teams including website content; software licences; website development and functionality; advertising and marketing partnerships; payment solutions; fulfilment services; outsourcing and consultancy arrangements; CRM services; security and data processing agreements. You will support procurement processes including advising on the necessary due diligence, analysis and selection of service providers and the negotiation and drafting of the service provision contracts and supporting documentation. You will act as a data protection champion and keep abreast of the laws governing data protection and the application thereof and ensure compliance with such laws and the Group’s data protection policies and guidelines. You will play a prominent role within the legal team and be willing and able to review and advise on a wide variety of commercial contracts and legal matters across other areas of the business and provide general ad hoc legal support when required.
To be successful you must have a strong academic background, have trained in-house or at a leading law firm and be currently working in an in-house legal environment preferably within the fashion, retail or FMCG industry. You will have good and relevant sector knowledge, be competent in advising on direct to consumer matters and have experience of working for a global brand and advising on multi-jurisdictional issues. You will be resilient, a self-starter with the ability to work independently and flexibly, demonstrating a commercial and solutions-focussed approach in dealing with a variety of legal issues across multiple geographical locations and legal systems. You will have strong analytical and technical drafting abilities with a keen attention to detail, and will have an interest in working within the fashion/retail industry. You will have the ability and confidence to pro-actively build relationships at all levels of the business.
You will be able to manage and lead on certain projects, with minimal supervision from the Group General Counsel. You will have solid organisation skills and be able to prioritise work in order of risk and to meet tight deadlines.
