We are seeking a senior privacy counsel to ensure authoritative and effective procedures are in place to safeguard the University’ compliance obligations for all General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Freedom of Information, the Data Protection Act and associated legislation, to include the Data Protection Act, E-Privacy Regulations, Privacy and Electronic Regulations, CCTV Regulations, Digital Economy Legislation, Freedom of Information Act, Human Rights Act 1998, Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, Environmental Information Regulations, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, and all associated privacy legislation.
Principal Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
- To work closely with the Information and Data Director (IDD) to develop the University’s Information Law Framework across its business
- To deliver, evaluate, monitor and report on Information Law related policies, standards, processes and procedures as required
- To work with the IDD in the development and delivery of a training and awareness programme on information and data compliance
- To advise on data breach incidents, undertake investigations and provide support in the development of the data breach management response plan
- Deputise for the IDD as Data Protection Officer as and when required and assist the IDD in undertaking statutory data protection audits / compliance reviews
We are seeking a qualified solicitor with:
- Extensive knowledge of the GDPR , Data Protection Act, PECR, Freedom of Information Act, Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act and other related legislation
- Ability to deliver audience appropriate training in relevant areas of compliance
- Ability to work in a constantly changing environment and adapt as necessary/required
- Up to date knowledge of business and industry sector electronic information sources
