Employment Solicitor - Manchester
Our client is a leading national firm. Just opening with that sentence will probably give rise to a number of assumptions both positive and negative but might likely cause a view that is not representative of the position on the ground.
Of course if you are an experienced employment lawyer looking for a step up then invariable this is on offer. Where the margins are tighter might be with those candidates who are at similar or perhaps even larger practices where the question will be more aligned with "how could this opportunity be better for me?".
In the instance of the latter I'll try to answer that in two parts. Firstly, because the firm is full service and national it means that there is a good level of high quality work. Always a plus point and hopefully allays any fears of compromising on dealing with bigger ticket work.
Often that can mean that one might find yourself more distant from client contact and also at the whim of client demands. Which leads me onto the 2nd point.
The employment team in Manchester is relatively small - around 3 people. Everyone of the team is smart, commercial and, above all, incredibly friendly. This shines through in the client relationships they have developed. The team encourage client interaction and development at all levels but above all seek to strike much more of a work life balance. That isn't to say everyone is walking out the door mid-afternoon but rather that they seek to place emphasis on the right balance.
The size also gives rise to scope for substantive involvement in matters but also the means to progress your career organically with little blocking your path.
It is the above that sets the team and the firm apart in the local market.
In terms of what they are looking for is an employment lawyer at around 3 PQE. Ideally this would be someone who has had focus on respondent specific work across contentious and non-contentious disciplines. It would be a distinct advantage to have had experience of working with businesses with a good size workforce.
If you are bright, technically able and looking for an open and friendly team where you are more than just a number on budget spreadsheet then this is something you should want to check out.
