My client's In-House Claims team in Leeds are responsible for handling a range of Employer, Public and Product liability claims and are continually looking for ways to be innovative and stay at the forefront of their market. As an EL/PL Claims Handler


As an EL/PL Claims Handler you will:

  • Manage and handle a portfolio of Employer's, Public and Product Liability claims from first notification through to settlement in accordance with current legislation, court rules, internal and Insurer delegated authority requirements
  • Investigate and determine the company's liability in matters and manage individual claims reserves to ensure adequacy and integrity. Implement the most appropriate investigation methods/course of action and resolution
  • Identify, investigate and take appropriate action with the relevant authorities on suspected fraudulent cases including the instruction of external investigators where necessary
  • Review, analyse and value medical reports and evidence of losses
  • Negotiate quantum ensuring appropriate, fair, ethical and economic outcomes
  • Determine appropriate control measures and risk improvements to prevent the reoccurrence of incidents or reduction of impact by identifying causes, trends and areas for improvements and provide proactive feedback to stakeholders including Compliance
  • Provide support, feedback and coaching on claims investigation and performance to stores, depots, regional managers and business units
  • Instruct our panel of solicitors on litigated cases
  • Maintain files and diary systems in accordance with required standards to aid proactive and efficient file management
  • Assist other team members as required
  • Maintain and review accurate reserves and financial data for claims
  • Instigate recovery of outlay from third parties and suppliers as appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR in the handling of claims
  • Update knowledge through independent reading, research and attendance at relevant events on all relevant legislation, policy and practice


  • Claims handling experience of EL/PL matters
  • Experience of handling MOJ and non MOJ claims
  • Good understanding and knowledge of Pre-Action protocol and CPR rules
  • Well-developed communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to influence at all levels and cross functionally
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and ability to thrive under pressure are absolute requirements
  • Commitment to excellence, continuous improvement, honesty and integrity
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • CII/LPC/ILEX qualification desirable
  • Understanding of personal injury litigation including Pre-Action Disclosure
  • Ability to explain complex legal matters to non-legal personnel including customers
  • Strong negotiation skills, good planning and organisation, able to use own initiative
  • Ability to work collaboratively
