Remediations Counsel, Major "Universal Bank"
One of the world's leading universal bank brands, with operations across retail, corporate and investment banking, asset and wealth management, our client is a market leader in both UK and international markets in many of these areas.
Our client are building a brand new team to focus upon remediations and complaints associated with material risk. With a senior lawyer in place, they now require 2 mid-to-senior level lawyers and one junior lawyer to complete the launch lineup in what will be a highly diverse, challenging and visible role within the bank requiring both common sense, diplomacy and technical analysis skills.
In all cases where a remediation is necessary (across mortgages, bank lending, cards and payments, corporate banking, wholesale banking, wealth and fund management), the team will be brought in to analyse "what went wrong", advise the senior business stakeholders and build a remediation program to address the problem. This could be as diverse as potential derivative mis-selling and inaccurately calculated mortgage interest across the bank and takes in a number of areas of product knowledge, law and regulation.

A lawyer seeking an influential role with a major blue chip institution, you will have gained experience, at least some of which in retail, of a range of financial services products and how they are marketed and sold. The ideal candidate will have experience of design and implementation of remediation programs in any area but this is not essential. What is essential is that you love breadth of subject matter and working with people and that you are a capable problem solver and diplomat.
A qualified lawyer with guideline 4+ years' PQE (VP roles) or 1+ years' PQE (AVP role), you will have some exposure to an in-house environment either via secondment or a permanent role in-house.
