Who We Are
The Electoral Commission is the independent body that regulates the rules on political finance, sets standards for well-run elections and encourages people to register to vote. It is a busy and exciting time at the Commission with a number of significant polls having taken place in the last few years and an important programme of work.
We have a unique opportunity for a talented experienced lawyer to join us as Head of Legal, leading an expanding legal team in working on high profile cases and fascinating litigation. This is a rewarding time to work at the Commission as it continues to develop its role as a regulator ensuring high levels of compliance as well as working to modernise the electoral system.
The legal team plays a key role in ensuring the successful delivery and outcome of electoral events. As Head of Legal you will lead the team in providing advice across the whole range of the Commission’s functions, assessing the risks and providing options for managing such risks. You will also be responsible for the management of the team.
As a senior manager and member of the Commission's Senior Leadership Team you will actively contribute to the leadership of the Commission in line with its established goals and Corporate Plan.
Who we are looking for
You must be qualified to practice in England and Wales under the rules of the Law Society or Bar Council with at least eight years post qualification experience of administrative and public law as a lawyer in England and Wales.
Experience of government (central or local) or related organisations with governmental type duties or a regulatory body would be advantageous.
You will be flexible, resilient, self-motivated, pro-active, and be comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment.
