This is it. The moment when we re-write our county’s future. In becoming a unitary authority, we’ve opened the door to a world of hope and possibilities. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to shape a whole new era. Fresh thinking, new values, game-changing innovation: as a visionary leader, you’ll bring all of this. How will tomorrow look for you and our 21st century councils? The best way to predict your future is to create it.

As we take the first revolutionary steps towards the transformation of Dorset Council, expert guidance will be absolutely critical. You’ll advise Members and our Senior Leadership Team on all legal, constitutional, democratic and election issues, while taking on the statutory role of Monitoring Officer. You’ll also be the driving force behind the development of our Legal & Democratic service, creating a function that’s fit for the future.

The first elections to Dorset Council will take place on 2 May 2019. The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) held a consultation on its recommendations for the new electoral arrangements for Dorset Council, which proposed that 82 councillors should be elected and new electoral ward boundaries should be created. LGBCE will publish their final recommendations in October which will be subject to parliamentary scrutiny before coming into effect in time for the authority’s first election.

A qualified Solicitor or legal professional, you’ve tackled roles of similar size and scope. Now you’re ready for one with a difference, where you’ll draw on your experience of leading large-scale transformation. With a firm grasp of local government, you’ll have the credibility to win trust and support. Meanwhile, your expert communication skills will help you with the crucial job of networking and building partnerships.

We want a new authority that’s in touch with our communities. One that will build a 21st century economy and deliver quality services efficiently. How that happens will be down to an extraordinary team of leaders, which could include you. Join us, and decide how the future should look.
