Commercial Director for Leading Insurance Business
Mactavish is the UK’s leading expert on insurance governance and is leading the way in challenging the status quo in the insurance industry. We have a unique opportunity to offer an ambitious and commercially-minded lawyer to join us as a director. Mactavish has been operating in the commercial insurance sector for more than 15 years and was closely involved in the project to reform insurance law in the UK which culminated in the Insurance Act 2015. We are relentless in our focus to drive higher standards across the insurance industry and we work with our clients to increase the reliability of their insurance dramatically when they buy or renew their policies. The business is going from strength to strength and we act for a range of high profile and household name companies and institutions. We’ve just enjoyed a record month and are set to continue our year on year growth.
Mactavish offers a range of insurance governance, consultancy, research and dispute resolution services and we have identified a role for a corporate/commercial lawyer to take on a client facing role. As a director of the business you will join an ambitious and determined team to help drive the business forward. You will work closely with our project delivery team as they review complex and high value insurance policies and placements to ensure the best outcome for our clients. You will lead the way in handling and successfully concluding nuanced and sometimes challenging negotiations involving multiple parties, often with conflicting interests.
Accordingly, you are likely to have at least 5 years’ pqe with outstanding technical legal skills combined with strong negotiation and client skills and commercial acumen. It is essential that you get to grips with substantial insurance policies, documents and contracts in conjunction with our delivery team, so it will be helpful if you have gained experience of non-contentious work either from a leading law firm or the inhouse department of a highly regarded business. This is not a litigation role and corporate and commercial experience is preferred, but contentious insurance experience will be considered if backed up with experience of handling heavyweight non- contentious contractual negotiations. Whilst we have a separate and driven business development team, you will also need to help win and develop new business.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a business-minded lawyer looking to do something truly different and innovative with a fast-growing business at a relatively early stage of its development. You will have an impact and play a key part in the future of Mactavish as it forges ahead. In addition, your contribution will be recognised with a competitive salary, performance related bonus, company benefits and the potential for equity participation in the future.
