ASSOCIATE GENERAL COUNSEL
LEADING EDUCATION MULTINATIONAL
LONDON
REF: 1772/PB
Our client is a leading multinational business which provides education and career services to over one million students globally. It has over 30, 000 employees in 600 locations around the world.
A role has arisen for an experienced commercial lawyer to join the business. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will work on a range of business critical and strategic legal risk and compliance issues.
In particular you will be responsible for:
- Reviewing, negotiating and drafting a range of international and UK commercial contracts including partner and customer agreements, IT and outsourcing agreements
- Project managing compliance projects internationally
- Managing external counsel and supporting on a range of matters such as commercial property development projects and operating in new jurisdictions.
- Advising on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious commercial legal matters including construction, employment and contractual matters.
- Supporting and advising on any legal issues including student and business partner level issues.
- Managing a member of the legal team.
- Supporting the legal and compliance training programs (as required).
This is a highly visible role with significant contact at senior management level. To succeed in this role you will be qualified in the Commonwealth and must have trained and subsequently spent the initial 5 years of your legal career within a well-respected law firm. Your private practice experience is likely to have been in high value commercial contracts but corporate transactional lawyers will also be considered.
In-house experience (ideally working within a regulated industry) is preferable but not a prerequisite. In addition, fluency in a second language such as Arabic, Mandarin or Spanish is welcome.
You must have excellent communication, negotiation, drafting and project management skills. Strong organisational skills and the ability to get things done, whilst balancing legal and business risks appropriately are key to this role. In return, we offer you an exciting opportunity to work in a non-hierarchical, internationally successful company that offers a stimulating, dynamic and enjoyable working environment.
