Group Legal Manager
Legal & General Group PLC is one of the world’s largest insurance and investment management groups, with assets under management of £894bn at 31 December 2016. Established in London in 1836, we have been providing insurance for our customers for over 180 years.
With annual premiums well in excess of £1bn, the Legal & General UK Insurance and General Insurance businesses provide the full range of products to include life, home, car, landlord, pet, travel and lifestyle insurance.
Reporting to the General Counsel (Retirement and Insurance), and based in our Coleman Street, EC2 head office, you will play a key role within the Group legal team, providing day-to-day legal advice and transaction support to the UK Insurance division. Of key importance is to ensure that the Group's competitive interests are as well positioned as practicable and that there has been due compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements as well as the Group's own internal governance procedures.
In particular, you will be responsible for negotiating the legal aspects of a range of distribution and reinsurance transactions; assisting with the ongoing development of L&G standard form documentation; advising on legal issues relating to the UK Insurance division’s products; and working closely with external counsel and internal advisory functions.
Whether working independently or as part of a team, you will quickly develop an awareness of what the business is seeking to achieve, and it is essential that you can communicate and influence at a variety of levels, understanding the potential sensitivities of each impact.
Your technical experience will include a detailed knowledge of the relevant statutory, regulatory and common law applicable to insurance products and distribution and the wider financial services industry. It is essential that you are a lawyer with, ideally, 2-5 years’ relevant experience, gained in a leading City law firm or in a high profile financial institution, though applications from lawyers with different levels of post qualification experience will be considered.
There is an attractive remuneration and benefits package.
