Major Energy company seeks a shipping/energy lawyer to be based either in London, Brussels or Paris.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and execute comprehensive legal strategies and solutions to facilitate the objectives and development of the trading/marketing businesses and advise on legal and related issues as they arise in day-to-day trading/marketing activities, identifying and mitigating any transactional, regulatory and related risks
- Provide material legal support to the desks, including without limitation by drafting, reviewing, advising on and negotiating master agreements (SCOTA, EFET, ISDA etc), GTC’s and related transaction documentation, including freight, credit support, collateral and security agreements
- Manage disputes in a cost-effective manner
- Have significant involvement with and advise on, negotiate and structure complex transactions (eg pre-paid forwards, long-term supply agreements and other structured and secured financing-related transactions)
- Remain current on laws and regulations applicable to the commodity supply chain, such as sanctions, anti-corruption, anti-bribery, financial services and related laws, encourage a culture of compliance therewith including by the development of relevant internal policies
- Deal frequently with other stakeholders and management, in particular the Internal Control and Compliance function, on day-to-day activities and transactional, regulatory and compliance related matters/issues, and effectively manage external counsel
The successful candidate will ideally be
- Qualified in the UK or other common law jurisdiction with 5+ years’ PQE experience ideally in commodities trading/marketing/freight, and financial markets law
- Experience of European physical commodity markets and familiarity with maritime and financial services law would be highly advantageous
