The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has completed its first year as a newly created organisation that promotes competition and makes markets work well for consumers, businesses and the economy. Over the last year we have delivered a number of successful outcomes as our work continues to benefit the lives of everyone in the UK. Joining us now, at a time when our investigation work relating to complex and high profile mergers is attracting considerable attention, will offer uniquely exciting professional opportunities.
This is an opportunity to lead our Mergers Intelligence team, which will place you at the forefront of some of our most high profile cases, and you’ll play a personal role in identifying instances of merger activity that raise competition issues. Your team’s research, analysis and recommendations will be essential to our success in identifying and addressing anti-competitive business mergers. It’s a constantly changing landscape and you’ll produce a weekly report on relevant activity that highlights any activity that merits further investigation. You can expect considerable liaison with senior stakeholders within our organisation and in the business community. You will ensure that the mergers intelligence function is highly professional in its approach, and produces high standards of analysis supported by thorough audit trails. We’ll also look to you to encourage a culture of continuous improvement and identify opportunities to refine and enhance our work in this area.
Your own professional background could be in a number of settings, such as law, economics or business, and you should be able to analyse how mergers work and identify the potential competition issues that they may present. This role will suit an individual who has excellent analytical skills, understands how business works and who can maintain a perspective that considers the big picture as well as spotting the detail. You should be a highly professional and credible individual, who bases decisions and recommendations on thorough research but who can also offer advice and analysis on the spot when required. This is an opportunity to take on an influential role that will help make competition work better for consumers, and offers considerable scope for ongoing professional development.
In addition to a competitive salary the CMA also offers generous other benefits like an excellent Civil Service pension scheme, 31 and a half days annual leave, favourable consideration of flexible working options as well as generous maternity/paternity leave provision in excess of statutory requirements.
