Legal & General
Corporate Insurance Lawyer 5+ years’ pqe
Legal & General Group PLC is one of the world’s largest insurance and investment management groups, with assets under management of £465bn at 30 June 2014. Established in London in 1836, we have been providing insurance for our customers for over 178 years.
The Legal & General Retirement business (LGR) is placed at the forefront of developments in the bulk annuity and longevity insurance market, having recently completed some of the highest profile and most innovative pension risk transfer transactions. Over the last two years we have put in place longevity insurance arrangements for the BAE Pension Plan, covering a total of c. £5bn of liabilities, as well as a buy-in arrangement with the ICI Pension Fund, covering c. £3bn of pensioner liabilities. We are now poised to add to our team through the appointment of an additional lawyer.
Reporting to the Head of Legal, LGR, and based in our Coleman Street, EC2 head office, you will play a key role within the Group legal team, initiating and structuring innovative deals and ensuring that our competitive interests are keenly positioned. You will also work closely with lawyers across the Group legal function, winner of the FT Most Innovative European In-house legal team 2013.
In particular, you will be responsible for providing legal advice and transaction management assistance to LGR on bulk annuity and longevity insurance and reinsurance transactions, as well as providing day to day commercial advice across a range of smaller transactions and commercial arrangements. In particular you will: structure and negotiate a range of insurance and reinsurance transactions, including supporting security arrangements; assist with the ongoing development of L&G standard form insurance and reinsurance documentation; and work closely with external counsel and internal advisory functions.
Whether working independently or as part of a team, you will quickly develop an awareness of what the business is seeking to achieve and it is essential that you can communicate and influence at a variety of levels, understanding the potential sensitivities of each impact.
Your technical experience will, ideally, include hands-on exposure to the above transactions and an understanding of governance and the regulatory environment will also be most valuable. It is essential that you are a lawyer with in excess of 5 years’ relevant experience, gained in a leading City law firm or in a high profile financial institution.
There is an attractive remuneration package.
