An AIM listed company within the media sector is seeking an experienced legal advisor to join as the company's first legal counsel. The newly created role will develop legal awareness within the business and assist with full integration of legal principles into key business operations. The business is a leading player in various markets and principally operates in the B to B space.
A confident and enthusiastic lawyer is required to form a key part of the success of the growing business. The role will have a wide remit and you will be called upon to provide advice and support across a wide range of business functions, offering clear, concise and practical legal and commercial advice.
Key responsibilities will include:
*To provide support to business stakeholders in dealing with ad hoc legal issues arising within the course of business;
*To advise on commercial or contractual issues in connection with:
oContractual agreements with customers/suppliers
oIP protection, licensing and exploitation
oDispute resolution
oPrivacy/data protection/data security
oEmployment
oGeneral compliance issues
oProperty and other operational matters
*To create template contracts for use across the business which promote best commercial terms and comply with company policies;
*To review and develop risk management guidelines across the business;
*To manage corporate housekeeping and provide company secretarial support;
*To deal with disputes as and when they arise;
*Manage external counsel, where necessary, ensuring appropriate service levels and costs management
Key experience
*An experienced legal advisor with at least 5 years PQE;
*Demonstrable high quality in-house or private practice experience
*Demonstrable ability to provide effective commercial solutions to colleagues and to act as a commercial and legal advisor within a business team;
*Ability to analyse complex legal issues; develop strategies and argue points constructively and succinctly
*Ability to communicate legal advice clearly and concisely in a commercial environment and contribute to finding practical commercial solutions
This is key hire where you will report to the Financial Director and work directly with the board on a number of critical issues. In particular, you will need to review a number of key procurement contracts and establish a formal review process.
