Responsibilities
- Drafting and negotiating corporate and commercial contracts for EMEA some of which are industry specific such as advertising sales representation agreements and operational agreements for the broadcast of our channels.
- Providing support to members of the corporate legal team in London, in particular to the VP and to the Director of Corporate Legal as and when required (capacity permitting).
- Coordinating all litigation and sanctions risk for EMEA, working with the US litigation department where necessary.
- Liaising with lawyers across EMEA and the US dealing with their requests and in order to co-ordinate advice.
Requirements
Skills
- Technically very proficient lawyer – needs to have excellent understanding of contract law and excellent drafting skills. Must be UK (or comparable jurisdiction) qualified lawyer.
- Negotiation skills must be proven – to deliver both proper legal protection to the company and excellent commercial results.
- Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to work effectively at all levels within the company and especially within the Corporate legal department.
- Clear and concise communicator (both orally and written) – ability to present and distil legally complex issues into legally compliant but practical and commercial solutions, in a way that engages relevant stakeholders.
- Well organised and demonstrates attention to detail: this role requires focus and energy to ensure that nothing falls between the cracks.
- Ability to keep the VP and Director informed on workload and escalating issues to them where risk is high in deals being worked on.
Knowledge
- Must be commercially minded and be able to assess when to involve other parts of the business.
- An understanding of the broadcasting market and broadcasting jargon is advantageous but not essential.
