Superb opportunity for an Energy lawyer with both oil & gas and power experience to join a leading knowledge management provider. Solid UK experience and in-depth knowledge of the UK regime is essential.
Your role will be to scope, develop and launch a current awareness product covering key energy law developments in England and Wales/United Kingdom, to form part of a new energy current awareness offering to customers.
You should ideally possess an understanding of upstream and downstream oil and gas; renewables; the electricity market; nuclear power; alternative energy (including shale); power purchase agreements and similar contracts; and the financing and procurement of energy projects.
You will work in collaboration with existing practice areas, focusing on energy sector legal current awareness and working with a steering group to assist collaboration and agree strategic direction.
Major Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
* Scope, develop and launch a current awareness product covering key energy law developments in England and Wales/United Kingdom, to form part of a new energy current awareness offering to customers.
* Select from existing content and write timely, new content for the energy current awareness product (including updates on legislation and policy and case reports).
* Work with other practice areas to ensure a cross-service approach.
* Work with the sales and marketing teams to launch and publicise the new offering, actively engaging with customers.
* Assist the Head of Current Awareness on the current awareness aspects of the energy offering.
* As the role develops, work as required on other energy sector-related projects.
* Keep up-to-date with general legal developments, energy sector news, industry best practice and the strategy of the business and consider how they may affect the energy offering.
* Reply to customer feedback queries.
* Provide insight to colleagues for the benefit of existing or future multi-jurisdictional content for the energy sector.
* Assist colleagues who maintain (keep up to date) existing energy-related resources to help ensure those resources are up to date and reflect current market practice.
* Carry out peer-review of energy-related content written by colleagues.
Mandatory Skills and Experience:
* Significant experience working as a lawyer, whether in-house, in private practice or in the public sector, specialising in energy law.
* Excellent understanding of the legal market and the needs of lawyers, particularly in the energy sector and in-house.
* A vision to scope a new current awareness product.
* Ability to write practical, plain English content efficiently.
* Commercial awareness.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
* Good IT skills.
* Strong technical legal skills, including an understanding of upstream and downstream oil and gas; renewables; the electricity market; nuclear power; alternative energy (including shale); power purchase agreements and similar contracts; and the financing and procurement of energy projects.
* Strong listening and communication skills.
* Team player with a flexible approach.
* Ability to drive projects forward independently and manage competing priorities.
* Enthusiasm for the practice of law with an intellectually rigorous approach to difficult issues.
