Vacation Scheme
Our vacation schemes are a great introduction to life at Herbert Smith Freehills. You’ll sit with a partner or an associate and be given real work for real clients. You’ll be involved in workshops and presentations and be given the opportunity to attend formal and informal social events. You will meet others on the vacation scheme, as well as partners, associates and trainees and by the end of the scheme you should have a good idea if Herbert Smith Freehills is right for you.
After accepting a place on our London scheme, you may apply to spend time in one of our offices in Brussels, Madrid, Hong Kong, Paris, Shanghai, Singapore or Tokyo. We will take care of all flight costs, accommodation and living expenses.
Pay: £350 per week
Every winter, spring and summer we run two day workshops exclusively for first-year students in our London office. You’ll hear from leading lawyers, take part in interactive projects that show the breadth of our practice and shadow one of our current trainees. Accommodation is provided and you’ll be invited to an evening social event.
Vacation Scheme Application periods
- Winter vacation scheme (December 2014, 2 weeks): please apply 1 October 2014 – 31 October 2014.

Training Contracts
As one of the world’s leading legal practices, we offer exceptional training and development opportunities. You will work alongside inspiring people on challenging and complex matters for many of the biggest and most ambitious organisations. We will help you grow personally and professionally.
You will spend time in disputes and corporate and be offered seats in finance, real estate, employment, pensions and incentives, competition and regulation and trade, and specialist areas as such as IP, tax and advocacy. We will also give you the chance to go on secondment –either to a client or one of our offices overseas.
You will also be assigned a partner mentor. In each seat, you will share an office with a partner or senior associate who will give you guidance and support.
