We are currently working with a leading international bank that is looking to recruit a lawyer to support their Legal, Compliance and Regulatory Affairs functions. The position is part of the Group Legal function and the successful candidate will report directly to the General Counsel.
The purpose of the role is to support the General Counsel to deliver the legal strategy, working with stakeholders and legal colleagues to ensure the timely, effective and efficient delivery of all issues, projects and initiatives. The successful candidate will manage and coordinate this delivery and form key relationships across Legal, Group Compliance and Regulatory Affairs. He/she will have a global remit with a particular emphasis on UK and Ireland regulatory isuses.
Duties/responsibilities:
- Deputise for the General Counsel where appropriate
- To lead and manage external advisers and other stakeholders in successfully delivering on transactions and projects on a timely basis
- To represent the bank's Legal Departmnet on AML/Sanctions and other related divisional / business risk and control committees and provide advice, support and guidance for legal risk issues
- To deliver expert, accurate and cost effective legal advice on regulatory developments to key stakeholders ensuring it is readily understandable to non lawyers, delivered within relevant timescales, is commercial and proactive and manages / minimises legal risks
- To strive for continuous improvements in the operating practices and processes including identifying efficiencies, improvements and opportunities to reduce costs
- To manage and deliver the communication of internal and external legal advice and input on transactions and projects to stakeholders in a commercial, user friendly and efficient manner
- Responsible for managing legal costs through the use of Ebilling, auctions and other cost tools and for promoting a culture of cost efficiencies and controls
Experience Required:
- Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (qualifications in other jurisdictions may be considered although practising experience in the UK is mandatory)
- Industry level knowledge of the UK legal, compliance and regulatory environment
- Expert knowledge of the challenges facing the banking sector, particularly working knowledge of internal and external regulatory investigations
- In depth understanding of the commercial environment within which the bank operates
- Significant experience in the Financial Services industry with a track record of stakeholder management
- Experience of organising, leading and motivating professional teams
