The Role
We are recruiting for a Compliance Counsel (CC) to join the Legal team at our Northampton office looking after the WEMEA region (UK, South Africa, NAME and IMED).
Reporting into the Regional Compliance Director EMEA the CC will be responsible for managing legal compliance activities, counselling internal clients, proposing solutions for complex matters, fostering a culture of awareness and adherence to guarantee quality and reliability of all work done across the region.
The primary responsibility of the CC will be to enhance and sustain an effective Compliance programme for the countries in the WEMEA region, providing guidance and direction and identifying and implementing best practice. The CC will utilise a risk-based approach to help identify areas of focus and help drive business integrity and compliance behaviour.
The CC will also have responsibility for:
- Working with a team of lawyers and technical staff to manage anti-corruption policies and procedures.
- Collaborating with other departments to investigate and resolve legal compliance issues.
- Working in partnership with Global Legal Investigations to evaluate and recommend the initiation of investigative procedures.
- Identifying potential areas of compliance vulnerability and working in conjunction with the regional team to develop and implement corrective action plans.
What experience do I need?
Essential:
- Graduate calibre (within a legal discipline).
- Strong experience as an in-house legal counsel or associate/legal counsel within a law firm.
- Expert in the area of compliance, with experience or providing clear and concise legal advice on complex matters.
- Experience in Anti-Corruption/Bribery Compliance.
- Experience in one, or more of the following: corporate law, regulatory law, commercial law or litigation/regulatory investigations.
- Excellent analytical skills and judgement.
- Strong communicator, both verbally and in writing.
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualification.
- Additional languages.
- Prior international experience, especially working in or with US multinationals.
