This national firm has been going from strength to strength with some high profile acquisitions. As part of the continued development of the department, the firm wishes to appoint another solicitor to build upon an existing flow of good quality commercial work. Clients range across AIM companies, UK and European operations of multinational groups, SMEs and early stage entrepreneurial companies. They act for all levels in the manufacturing, distribution and service-providing supply chain.
THE ROLE
The work encompasses agency, distribution, supply (public sector and private sector), contract manufacture, licensing, outsourcing, etc. Software development and licensing contracts, software-as-a-service, contracts for information aggregators/analysts and Web 2.0 companies form a major part of the work. The firm's "trusted adviser" relationship with clients often involves the team in helping to formulate strategies for agency/distribution networks, IP protection, outsourcing, IT service procurement, etc.
You will work as part of a team with the corporate lawyers - providing commercial and IP support in corporate deals - as well as doing non-transactional work. There is a cross-office team of over 30 commercial and IP lawyers in the national group. There is a strong ethos of knowledge sharing in the Department and nationally.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- commercial acumen and excellent analytical and drafting skills
- a good communicator and comfortable working in an intellectually challenging environment.
- broad commercial experience, particularly with an intellectual property content.
- a thorough understanding of the origination, protection and commercialisation of intellectual property.
- experience with research and development in academic, commercial and not-for-profit organisations would be an advantage.
In addition you will need a good understanding of surrounding areas of law and regulation - competition law (EU and UK), data protection, technology transfer, freedom of information - and awareness of the impact of tax on commercial relationships.
WHO?
This role would suit a successful, highly motivated candidate from an established commercial private practice, or in-house team, with the ability to work with light-touch supervision.
The firm offer market-rate salaries, pension and private health care, on-site parking, flexible working, subsidised on-site café, as well as a friendly working environment.
