We are currently recruiting for a solicitor to join our Chambers premier rated Professional Risks teams in London. The team, led by Partners Jane Williams, Hannah Cane and Simon Gildener, defend professional negligence claims against a variety of professionals, usually on behalf of major insurers and increasingly large self insureds. Much of the work relates to disputes concerning solicitors but also includes claims against IT firms, surveyors, financial professionals, accountants, barristers, architects, engineers, and other professions. No two claims are the same and there are always new challenges to explore.
The role will involve you developing your own caseload but also assisting other senior lawyers with larger claims. You will be expected to show strong intellectual ability, a thorough approach to complex legal analysis and real attention to detail, but also a high level of commerciality in addressing the client's overall objectives. A key skill is the ability to produce high quality written advice and reports. Strong interpersonal skills are also needed, particularly to deal diplomatically but effectively with the different interests of insurers and insureds.
For the right candidate, there will be opportunities to develop contact and relationships with insurer clients and to assist in the long term development of the business. The department is looking to achieve further diversification in work types and an increased emphasis on commercial insurance and financial institutions work. Opportunities to spend time on secondment with clients are available from time to time and these can help to develop understanding of a client's business and approach. The team has a collegiate approach and with the support of true leaders in their field this is an opportunity to build and develop a career in a growing specialism.
The successful candidate will have ideally gained experience in professional indemnity work at a large regional or city firm, although experience of litigation and commercial issues is useful. Experience of insurance policy coverage issues would be a bonus.
