This leading insurance intermediary has a vacancy within its Legal Department for a lawyer to provide business-aligned coverage for its Managing General Underwriter/Managing General Agent and Distribution business lines.
Working with key business figures such as the COO and the MD for the MGU business, you will have a significant and front-line role to play in the business and will be at the forefront of negotiating affinity agreements and putting large scale business arrangements in place on a project basis. These involve multiple areas of law including IP around brand use, insurance underwriting, designated authority, policy wording and coverage and complex commercial contracts. In addition, financials are often intensely negotiated, requiring an individual with a strong eye for detail and a good knowledge of technical insurance language. The role also places the successful candidate across a broad range off insurance lines so market and product knowledge is at a premium. You will report to the Head of Commercial Law and will be a key deputy with sight-lines over the underwriting and distribution business.
The successful candidate will be a lawyer with significant exposure to the insurance sector, most probably via a current in-house position, though possibly via secondment from a relevant law firm involved in insurance affinity matters. Litigators with substantial knowledge of coverage and wording matters and additional experience in an underwriting role on secondment would also be considered. You may be in-house with an insurer and seeking a move to the broker side or simply be a lawyer wit exceptional technical insurance acumen, seeking a move closer to the business. A guideline "PQE" would be 5-10 years though candidates outside this range may be considered.
The business and the Legal Department have both seen significant recent growth and continue to morph to suit a challenging period of growth and integration. As such, the role provides a fast-paced environment with prospects for advancement and to "own" the role, making of it what you will and becoming a key point-person and integral to Legal Department and Business alike.
