Burford is publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange's AIM market and has the largest and most experienced dedicated team in the industry.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
This role requires an individual with the legal knowledge necessary to assess cases for litigation funding and/or insurance, and to deal with a range of updates and queries on the insurance book of business.
Experience:
- At least 2 years’ experience in dealing with complex commercial litigation in a leading city firm.
- Knowledge of and ability to liaise credibly with litigation departments of leading law firms
- Ability to review and underwrite large and complex commercial litigation matters
Skills and attributes:
- Highly effective communicator – inside and outside the business
- Exceptional risk analysis, report writing and case management skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a small internal team and with clients and counsel
- Entrepreneurial, fast moving and flexible approach.
- Drive, determination and commitment to building the Burford business in the UK and to maximise profitability of the current book of ATE insurance business.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- To underwrite, convert and administer individual funding and insurance risks, within specified authority levels, in order to contribute to the profitable development of the account.
- To maintain and improve the quality of accepted risks through rigorous and flexible underwriting.
- To deal (expediently and so as to maximise financial returns across the book) with issues as they arise on existing cases – around changes during the policy, offers, mediations, claims and settlements.
- To cultivate and maintain effective relationships with solicitors, clients, and/or intermediaries.
- To actively manage allocated parts of the run-off book of business, ensuring that periodic updates are received and that accurate data on, for example, scheme performance, is provided by solicitors/client.
