This growing mid tier firm has a small Pensions practice (with one ex Magic Circle partner and two associate), but one that attracts very high quality work. The head of the department is friendly and engaging and is supported by a pensions litigator and another junior associate doing a mix of contentious and non-contentious work. It is part of a 15 strong Employment and Pensions team so is a friendly and buzzing environment and not silo'd. They act predominantly for Corporates doing Corporate Strategy work and opening and closing pensions schemes. They have also won a number of trustee clients of late. There are clearly no issues with brand given that such firms as Clifford Chance, Allen and Overy and other top tier pensions firms are regularly competing with them for work.
The need that currently exists is for a 4+ PQE non-contentious Pensions lawyer - this is in line with their proposed growth plans to build from the bottom up - a partner led model with associate support. It is a unique offering in that the role is not going to solely comprise billable work - a significant portion will include marketing (these count towards hours targets) which the partner believes is essential to the development of mid to senior level lawyers and not something as readily available at many peer firms. The all equity partnership model tends to promote a more cohesive and non-aggressive culture and will suit those looking for the best quality work but also a supportive and friendly working culture.
