Our client is the global leader in consumer electronics.Their EU division comprises 18 subsidiaries across Europe and it has recently become the leading Consumer Electronics brand in terms of recognition and most preferred by consumers.  However, the ambition on the business is to become THE leading Electronics brand and to double its turnover by 2020.

Purpose of the Role...

To work within the European Legal and Compliance Team to provide advice on regulatory/compliance matters, focussing on data protection.Additional work will include general commercial matters across the region.

Key Responsibilities...

Provision of prompt and detailed legal advice in relation to legal questions and documentation.

The work will span delivering advice on data protection law issues to UK and European HQ (“EHQ”), as well as providing advice on other relevant compliance / regulatory matters from time to time to assist the wider team.

More particularly the role will include: (i) advising on applicable data protection issues arising in relation to EHQ projects and initiatives; (ii) advising and working on relevant data protection structures to ensure data protection compliance, including engaging in dialogue with HQ and the other subsidiaries across Europe; (iii) assisting with research on legal issues, case law and legislative developments; (iv) providing training to the business on compliance matters; (v) assisting with the provision of practical guidance to the business on policies and procedures.

Key Competencies/Characteristics...


Candidates are expected to be patient, pragmatic, flexible, good communicators, detail focused, culturally aware/ sensitive and be able to explain legal issues in clear terms that are easily understood.  They need to be able to work under their own initiative although the role is to function and be integrated within a small and close knit legal team.


They need also to understand and be committed to working within an “in-house” legal environment. They need to have excellent drafting and analytical skills.  Finally, they need to be able to work/communicate with, influence and provide guidance to individuals at all levels of the organisation.



Hard Skills: 


The candidate must be a qualified solicitor.  The role would suit candidates with 2 – 4 yrs PQE, although all candidates with relevant experience are invited to apply.



To be successful in this role you ideally have:-

Candidates should have good academics and have trained at a top tier London or major provincial firm.  They need to have a good overall grasp of compliance issues, particularly data protection and ideally have experience of advising global consumer products brands.  In-house experience is desirable, although not required.
