The Commercial Department at Burges Salmon comprises 13 partners and around 30 lawyers who specialise in meeting our clients' non-contentious commercial contract needs (excluding corporate and finance requirements). The team has an outstanding reputation with particular strengths across a range of sectors including financial services, energy, food, defence, manufacturing, sport and transport.
Our work will commonly require us to have an appreciation not just of the legal issues but also the underlying commercial objectives and as a consequence we have a highly developed understanding of our clients' industry sectors. This approach has resulted in a practice that is not only able to attract high quality clients on a national and international basis, but also maintains good, close relationships with those clients.
Our Commercial Department undertakes the full range of major commercial contract and transactional work, including agency and distribution, procurement (both public and private), strategic outsourcing arrangements, franchising, collaboration and joint venture projects, to name but a few.
Commercial clients include:
Nuclear Decommissioning Authority
The Carbon Trust
Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew
FirstGroup plc and its various train and bus operators
Department for Transport
Selex Galileo (a Finmeccanica Company)
Ministry of Defence
The Racecourse Association
We look for an excellent academic record, coupled with first-class commercial experience gained in a firm with a strong reputation for heavyweight commercial work.
