FANTASTIC FIRST TIME APPOINTMENT, REGIONAL COUNSEL ROLE FOR A DRIVEN & COMMERCIALLY ASTUTE LAWYER
Wheelabrator Technologies Inc specialises in the energy from waste business whereby municipal solid waste and other renewable waste fuels are converted into energy in a safe and environmentally sound manner. We are a wholly owned subsidiary of Waste Management Inc, a New York Stock Exchange listed company and North America’s largest environmental solutions provider.
Due to our continued growth internationally, and in particular in the UK, we are looking to make a first time appointment of a lawyer in London to manage legal matters in the UK and in our other international development markets. Reporting to the General Counsel, who is based at our HQ in Hampton, New Hampshire, with a dotted line into the Vice President for UK operations, you will enjoy a broad and challenging mix of work. This will include: advising on bids; managing projects from inception to delivery, including the construction and financing elements; advising on waste supply agreements, M&A, litigation and corporate governance; and managing our relationships with external counsel.
To take on this role, you will be at least 8 years’ PQE* with some of your experience gained at a recognised leading law firm. In-house experience, whilst very useful, is not a pre-requisite. The position is likely to suit a projects or corporate lawyer and waste or power sector experience will be an advantage.
This is currently a sole role. As such, in addition to being technically strong it is also important that you inspire confidence and demonstrate the ability to drive our projects forward in a timely fashion. A key member of our close-knit and experienced London team, you will work closely with people from a range of different professional backgrounds and therefore you must be decisive and able to communicate complex legal problems and solutions in a clear and concise manner.
For the right candidate this position offers a unique opportunity to make your mark and shape the delivery of legal services outside of the US. In return, we can offer a competitive base salary and benefits package.
