"Magic circle firm advice…with a higher degree of commerciality and client care."
(Chambers and Partners)

Our four-partner banking and finance team, which includes 15 solicitors, has an impressive client list on the lender side, acting for RBS, Lloyds Banking Group and HSBC. Consistently ranked in the top tier by both the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners, the team advises across the board on corporate banking, acquisition finance, real estate finance, asset finance, project finance and securitisations.

Transaction sizes vary from £1 million to £2 billion with the majority being in the £10 million to £100 million bracket.

In the current economic climate, a large amount of the work is restructuring and/or refinancing existing transactions however the main areas, and clients, are;

Corporate Banking and Acquisition Finance

Clients include: Lloyds Banking Group; RBS; HSBC; Bayerische Landesbank; JP Morgan; Imperial Tobacco and FirstGroup.

Asset Finance

Clients include: Alsthom; RBS/Lombard; Svenska Handelsbanken and FirstGroup.

Property Finance

Clients include: HSBC; Lloyds Banking Group; Bank Leumi; Nationwide and RBS.

Insolvency Rescue and Recovery

Bank clients include: HSBC; Lloyds Banking Group; Nationwide and RBS.

Treasury, Derivatives and Securitisations

Clients include: Bayerische Landesbank; DEFRA; Coca-Cola HBC; Emirates Group; FirstGroup plc; Imperial Tobacco; Nationwide; Phoenix Medical; Royal Bank of Scotland and Sarasin & Partners.

Project Finance

Clients include: Helius Energy; Infinergy; New Earth Solutions; NordLB; Triodos Bank

The successful applicant will be expected to be involved in a number of different banking specialisms which, given the current market conditions, will almost certainly involve some restructurings and refinancings but also some new lending.

We look for an excellent academic record, coupled with recent banking experience gained from a firm with a strong banking practice and a sound commercial understanding of the banking market.

We welcome applications from lawyers with insolvency and/or derivatives experience as we see that as a useful addition to core banking and the firm has nationally recognised practises in both these areas.

In addition we would encourage Scottish qualified candidates because the team also undertakes work supporting our Scottish Real Estate colleagues.
