The Training Contract
As the graduate intake is relatively small, the firm gives Trainees individual attention, coaching and monitoring. Your structured and challenging programme involves four six month seats in areas of the firm covering contentious and non-contentious areas, across any department within the firm's practice groups. These seats include 'on the job' training and you will share an office with a Partner or Senior Associate. In-house lectures complement your training and there is continuous review of your career development. You will also have the opportunity to spend six months aboard in the Singapore or Hong Kong Office and there are also client secondment opportunities. As a Trainee at SH you will be given your own caseload and as much responsibility as you can shoulder. The firm plays a range of team sports, offered subsidised membership of a City health club (or a healthy club of your choice) and has privileged seats for concerts at the Royal Albert Hall and access to private views at the Tate Gallery.

At Stephenson Harwood we offer a number of vacation schemes in December, March/April, June and July. You will spend 1-2 weeks in our offices, one week in each of two departments, and during this time you will have the opportunity to sit with qualified lawyers, meet clients, tackle case work, visit several City institutions and attend court. We will ensure that you are involved in quality work and will try and accommodate any preferences you may have in regards to which seat you wish to experience. Each of you will be allocated a Trainee 'Buddy' from your first day with us, who will be at hand to help you settle in and answer any questions you may have. They are a valuable resource for information about what it's really like working at SH! Your time at SH will be packed with a comprehensive programme of interactive sessions with Sharon White, the CEO; and Associates and Partners from each practice area as well as a number of social events with your Buddy and your Supervisor.

Salary and Benefits: Training contract – Your salary in your first year would be £37,000 rising to £40,000 in your second year. Our current NQ salary is £60,000. Benefits include subsidised membership of heath clubs, private health insurance, pension, dental health scheme, private GP services, critical illness cover, health screening, life assurance, season ticket loan and 25 days paid holiday per year.
