The firm

Locations: Berlin, Brussels, London, Madrid, Munich, Paris, Singapore, Thames Valley

Olswang is a passionate and pioneering firm with a business-minded approach to the law. Our decisive, connected and highly-commercial people are committed to changing the face of business, impacting sectors ranging from Real Estate to Retail and Life Sciences to Leisure. Our progressive culture gives us a definitive edge and has won us an unparalleled reputation in industries such as Technology, Media and Telecoms.

Headquartered in London, our firm comprises over 700 people spanning a network of offices in Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Singapore and the UK. Our rapidly expanding presence across Europe, combined with our ambitious plans for growth in the territories our clients demand, makes us the firm of choice for true innovation, wherever it may be emerging across the globe.

As a leading client relationship management firm, our approach focuses on our clients’ business fields as opposed to our firm's service lines, ensuring that advice is delivered from a sector point of view. Our Technology, Media and Telecoms groups are particularly noted for this, with a strong heritage and an unrivalled depth of expertise that makes them some of the most insightful and inventive legal teams in the industry.

Our sector focus supports the wealth of knowledge and interest among fee earners and attracts a distinct breadth of clients from across industries. We represent recognised brands and key industry players, as well as smaller, pioneering companies. These include Bloomberg, eBay, Guardian Media Group plc, ITV, Legal & General, Lloyds, Microsoft, MTV Networks Europe, Nationwide, Sony BMG, UBS and Warner Music International.

Training Contracts

Our goal is to help you match your unique needs and expectations with those of the practice area groups. Training consists of four six-month seats in the Corporate, Real Estate, Litigation, Finance, Commercial or IP groups. You will be assigned a mentor, usually a partner, to assist and advise you throughout your training contract.

In-house lectures supplement your general training, three-monthly appraisals assess development and regular social events with other trainees encourage stronger, lasting relationships.

Future trainees have the support of the firm both personally and financially throughout the GDL and the LPC. We also provide a maintenance grant.

We also accept trainees at our Thames Valley Office (TVO) in Reading. TVO has attracted some of the world's leading technology, telecoms and e-commerce companies in recent years, and we have built up an enviable reputation for our work spanning employment, real estate, finance and IT/IP advice locally, supported by the full range of services available from the London office.

While applicants to TVO will ideally show a real commitment to the region and be expected to qualify into that office, trainees can look forward to the same training, mentoring and social events as trainees in London and are considered part of the same intake.

The firm is currently recruiting trainee solicitors to start in September 2015 and March 2016 and the deadline for submitting an online application via www.olswangtrainees.com is 31 July 2013.

Who should apply

Being a trainee at Olswang is both demanding and rewarding. The firm is interested in hearing from individuals who have achieved, or are on course for, a 2.1 degree or above, and possess exceptional drive and relevant commercial experience.
