Types of work
London is home to the Firm's largest office where Baker & McKenzie has been well established since opening in 1961. With more than 400 legal professionals, we have a substantial presence in the legal and business community.
We deliver high-quality local solutions across a broad range of practices and global advice in conjunction with our international offices. Our client base consists primarily of multinational corporates, based in the UK and elsewhere, and financial institutions. As may be expected of a firm with a very strong international client base, we have considerable expertise in acting on, and co-ordinating, cross-border transactions and disputes.
Our Corporate and Finance teams regularly advise on, and co-ordinate, complex, cross-border transactions for our clients. As a full service office, we cover all the practices expected of a major law firm in the UK, many of which are acclaimed and market-leading.
We also have a strong local reputation in specialist areas including intellectual property, information technology, telecoms, employment, pensions, banking and structured capital markets.
The Baker & McKenzie training contract:
The two-year training contract comprises of four six-month seats which include a corporate and a contentious seat, usually within our highly regarded dispute resolution department, together with the possibility of a secondment abroad or with a client. During each seat you will have formal and informal reviews to discuss your progress and regular meetings to explore subsequent seat preferences. Your training contract commences with a highly interactive and practical induction programme which focuses on key skills including practical problem solving, presenting and the application of information technology. The firm’s training programmes include important components on management and other business skills, as well as seminars and workshops on key legal topics for each practice area. There is a Trainee Solicitor Liaison Committee which acts as a forum for any new ideas or concerns which may occur during the training contract.
Away from the desk:
The firm offers trainees the opportunity to participate in a range of pro bono matters. Trainees are also encouraged to get actively involved in a variety of fundraising activities through the firm's Make a Difference committee. The firm offers a variety of social activities including annual Summer and Christmas parties and a monthly drinks reception. Trainees, Baker & McKenzie LPC students and summer vacation scheme students alike are also given the opportunity to join the firm's football, hockey, netball and cricket teams.
Training contract and vacation scheme opportunities:
The firm is aiming to recruit 34 individuals looking to commence their training contracts in either March 2016 or September 2016.
Each year we recruit approximately 10 Spring vacation scheme students and 30 Summer vacation scheme students. The Spring vacation scheme is open to law and non law students in their final year of study and those who have already graduated.
The Summer vacation scheme is open to law and non law students in their penultimate year of study.
We also offer a small number of international vacation scheme places, where penultimate year law students can spend up to 12 weeks split between London and one of our international offices.
