Ashurst offers clients and trainees alike a clear alternative to the other elite international law firms. With 28 offices spanning the world's leading financial and resource centres in Europe, Asia-Pacific, Middle East and the USA, we offer the scale to attract global mandates. With a reputation for commercial advice that is also technically acute we operate at the cutting edge of financial, corporate, infrastructure, disputes and resources markets. What marks us out from our competitors, however, is our team work and care for the individual. For our clients this means a highly personalised service. For our trainees it means a chance to make your presence felt right from the outset. Our strong culture of collegiality means you will be encouraged to take greater responsibility during your training contract and beyond.
1,800 lawyers throughout 28 offices in 16 countries, with a combined revenue of over £550 million.
Who we're looking for
As with other law firms at the top of the market there will be challenges, late nights and pressure to perform. However, we also prize our culture of teamwork, client service, innovation and fun. We are looking for exceptional people who can contribute fully in all these areas. You will need to be totally committed to delivering for our clients and at home expressing yourself on paper and out loud, with your team and within a client's board room. We are also looking for candidates who are on track for, or have secured, a strong 2.1 (or equivalent) in your undergraduate degree and have attained at least AAB (or equivalent) at A level.
The training contract
The training contract comprises of four seats of six months, each of which will be planned in collaboration with you. One seat will be in our finance department and we would expect you to sit in at least one other transactional department during your training contract. The other two seats can be in any of our broad range of practice areas. You will also be encouraged to join an overseas office or go on secondment to one of our most valued clients.
In addition to the obvious legal skills taught by all leading law firms, we will help you to develop the broad based acumen that will one day make you a trusted advisor to governments and the world's leading businesses. Your role at Ashurst will require you to become not only a highly technical lawyer, but also a shrewd negotiator, an incisive reader of any balance sheet and a business strategist with deep understanding of specific industries.
How to apply
We will be accepting applications (for training contracts to start in September 2016/March 2017) from 1 November 2013. The deadline to submit your application is 31 July 2014.
Our placement schemes
The best way to learn what it's really like to work at Ashurst is to join one of our placement schemes. We hold three each year:
- A two-week scheme during the spring for non-law and law finalists, graduates and career changers.
- Two three-week summer schemes, for penultimate year law undergraduates.
During our placement schemes you can expect an intensive look at the work we do and how we operate. You will spend each week in a different department, being supervised by a qualified solicitor and getting involved in real work. But it's not all work: we are just as interested in your ability to build relationships, so there will be several social events where you get to meet our associates and current trainees, as well as everyone else on the scheme.
How to apply
We will be accepting applications for our 2014 placement schemes from 1 November 2013. The deadline to submit your application is 31 January 2014. We will be reviewing applications and inviting candidates in for interview on a rolling basis so recommend applying early.
