Our award winning summer vacation scheme
Our summer vacation scheme is a three-week placement at the firm. In 2013 we will run three intakes of the scheme over the summer months (two in London, one in Sheffield).
The vacation scheme has been designed to give you a clear insight into our business, the type of work you can expect and the kind of people you will be working with. As a vacation scheme student you will be treated as a potential trainee. Each year we recruit the majority of our trainees through the scheme. You will spend the entirety of the scheme within one department, ensuring you are fully integrated into the team and receive a variety of high quality work. You will be allocated a supervisor to assist in managing your workload, and a 'buddy' (who will be a current trainee in your department), for added support.
In addition to the time you spend in your department you will be invited to breakfast briefings with the legal teams, participate in Project: Nabarro with other summer students – a team project designed to test your team working, creativity, problem solving, business acumen, organisation and entrepreneurial skills. The programme also incorporates a full social calendar to enable you to relax and have fun while mixing with the firm's trainee solicitors, associates and partners.
Training Contracts
Our training contract has been developed to give you experience across as wide a variety of work and clients as possible. You will complete six four-month seats, not the traditional four, exposing you to a broad range of both specialist and core practice areas. To us, the training contract is the start of a long-term relationship with you – the trainees are the future of our firm.
You will receive excellent support and supervision throughout your training contract and we aim to provide a happy environment where individuals are able to fulfil their potential and ambitions. We provide high quality work, a good client base and a positive, friendly atmosphere.
Your development as a trainee is crucial to the success of the firm and the future development of our business and so we will ensure you have plenty of support and guidance from day one of your training contract. You will usually sit with your supervisor, an experienced associate, who will be there to guide and coach you through each seat. We recognise that good supervision is vital - providing you with practical day-to-day training and opportunities to develop your legal skills and knowledge.
You will meet more formally with your supervisor half way through and at the end of each seat to review your performance and set objectives. Nobody will expect you to become the finished article overnight. What we do expect is energy, enthusiasm and commitment. In return, we will provide you with a challenging career - always backed up by the appropriate level of support.
We aim to retain all our trainees on qualification and have an average retention rate of 84% over the past five years.
