In-House Solicitor

Location: Bloomsbury, London

Salary: £37,336 to £50,000 (remuneration will be subject to an assessment of skills and experience)

Term: Permanent

Sport England is a Government Arm’s Length Body (ALB), sponsored by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), receiving approximately £300m of funding from the Exchequer and the National Lottery.

At our heart is the ambition that everyone in England, regardless of age, background or level of ability, should feel able to engage in sport and physical activity. That might be through traditional team sports like rugby or netball, but it could just as easily be a gym workout or going for a run. Being active is a key part of maintaining physical and mental wellbeing. It also benefits local communities through economic and social regeneration.

The Legal Services team, within the CEO’s Office, performs an essential function supporting the organisation to achieve its strategy. The team provides comprehensive professional legal advice, advising on the whole spectrum of legal issues relating to Sport England’s legal and business affairs, including its commercial and property interests, administrative law, compliance and risk in order to protect its investments and support decision making.

The post holder will be expected to lead on contractual negotiations and draft agreements including supplier contracts and funding agreements, as well as being responsible for the organisations trade mark portfolio.

Candidates must be a qualified solicitor or barrister (UK or equivalent jurisdiction) with at least 3 years’ PQE experience as a practising solicitor either in an in-house role or private practice. Experience in property, contracts, admin/public, or intellectual property law is desirable. We would also welcome applications from candidates who are generalist in-house solicitors.

The candidate will be expected to work independently and as part of a team, so it is important to be a team player, with good communication skills (both written and verbal) and ability to build strong relationships across the organisation especially with senior executives.

An ideal role for candidates wishing to combine their legal career with an interest in sport, and for candidates wishing to move to an in-house role within a dynamic organisation.

Interviews will be held in Bloomsbury, London on 21 and 22 March 2019.

Sport England actively promotes diversity in employment and sport and welcomes applications from all parts of the community.
