Linklaters has retained 83 per cent of its March-qualifying trainees.

The magic circle firm eventually kept on 45 of a total of 54 final-seat trainees, after offering jobs to 49.

The figure is similar to the firm’s retention last autumn, when 46 of 55 stayed on. Linklaters’ best result of recent times came in autumn 2014, when 93 per cent of qualifiers were retained.

Clifford Chance and Freshfields have yet to make their retention figures public, but Allen & Overy has kept on 91 per cent of its spring 2016 NQs.

Partner Nick Rumsby said: “After a number of years of consistently strong retention rates we are pleased to retain so many high quality lawyers from our March qualifiers. Our retention rate of 83% demonstrates our continuing ability to offer our trainees impressive qualification opportunities into a globally minded and commercially successful firm.”

The news follows the announcement last week from Linklaters that it is to introduce a raft of changes to its salaries, bonuses and benefits in a bid to create a sustainable and attractive recruitment and retention model, including extra holiday, added bonuses and one day a week working from home for all qualified lawyers.
