As the impact of both EU and US sanctions continue, financial services organisations and corporates are becoming more and more aware of the impact on their business streams and future plans. In addition, pre-empting issues and implementing policies and procedures is now a key function, working alongside the mainstream business units: both in future strategy and assurance in existing business. The role of the sanctions lawyer is no longer a side-line role, but a key figure in the most high level business decisions.

The anti-money laundering group in this leading FS organisation is organised by region, headed by a senior lawyer in the USA. Europe is now in need of its dedicated Sanctions Counsel to lead the EMEA response. This is a brand new role, based in the AML team but leading the legal support for designing and implementing procedures and policies and well as day to day strategic counsel and advice to business functions and senior management. This is a purely legal role that will work alongside the compliance team to assist the global business units on their obligations set forth by the US and European governments and regulators: from AML and anti-boycott compliance to economic sanctions, with a focus on US sanctions and the impact of OFAC decisions on the business.

The ideal candidate will have a US legal training (a JD), though this is not essential, with experience of working in Europe in a trade and sanctions legal capacity advising on the impact of OFAC regulations and international sanctions. You will have at least 8 years’ experience, though more is preferable given that you will be expected to have the confidence and gravitas to advise at MD, ‘Head of’ and General Counsel level on a day to day basis. Your background could be at a large corporate or FS organisation or indeed at a law firm.

Apply on line or contact ben.daniels@edwardsgibson.com to find out more about this or similar opportunities.

Edwards Gibson acts as an employment agency for permanent roles.

www.edwardsgibson.com
