The position
Supporting the Legal Affairs Director, the position focuses on handling all commercial and operational matters in Europe and Africa / Central Eurasia. Primary clients will include, Sales and Marketing, HR, R&D, supply Chain, Finance, Tax & Treasury, Governance and Manufacturing. Working as the number-two lawyer in the team (Legal Department of four), there will be hands-on responsibility for structuring, negotiating and drafting various strategic and operational commercial contacts; including supply, distribution, purchase and outsourcing agreements. Other duties will include, instructing and managing external Counsel and any other ad-hoc legal matters that are required. A key aspect of the position is working with international subsidiaries and being able to deliver the above legal services based in the UK. The volume of Cross-border and international work is high. Travel will be required on occasion.
The candidate
Candidates will have been admitted either in the UK or another common law jurisdiction. Candidates can come from either an in-house organisation or a well-known law firm (National, Major Regional or City firm). Candidates must have experience working in an international environment. Experience of working within the medical devices, pharmaceutical or health care industry is preferable, though not essential. Candidates with experience in marketing and advertising or competition law will also be of interest.
