The main purpose of the position is to lead and manage an in-depth, specialist and business focused litigation and legal investigations service servicing senior leadership teams and the Bank in general. Other duties include:
To provide pro-active advice and professional service to senior stakeholders Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the Bank (General Counsel, Legal leadership team, Senior leaders across the business, External legal panel, External Regulators) to develop and implement legal policy and procedures in order to drive a consistent legal approach. Build, lead, motivate, manage and develop the litigation team to ensure an effective and collaborative working environment, employee commitment and consistently high performance. As a member of the Legal leadership team, contribute to the development and implementation of the strategic plan and sponsor/lead strategic/change management initiatives within the directorate to ensure that the function achieves its objectives. Ensure the Bank operates in accordance with the spirit and letter of relevant regulatory and legal requirements Lead a specialist litigation service for the Bank, working with the senior leadership population in order to support and enhance business decisions and mitigate risk. Manage the litigation risk framework and appetite, and monitor compliance to ensure delivery of appropriate legal services organisation-wide. Develop and implement litigation policies and set functional objectives in order to ensure the delivery of operational plans and outcomes. Implement protocols for legal involvement in regulatory and other investigations Introduce reporting protocols and systems for litigation across the Bank Drive robust risk management and control across area of accountability. Ensure effective systems and controls are in place and that all risks are identified, managed, and monitored and reported in line with the Bank Risk Management Framework. Set up and manage the external legal panel for Litigation services to ensure an effective working relationship and value add legal provision. Desired Skills and Experience Experience Required:
Qualified lawyer with significant PQE Significant Financial Services / Banking Litigatiob Experience Experience of regulatory environment and investigations Commercial litigation experience particularly banking and professional negligence litigation Ability to introduce and implement process management and reporting for litigation Strong leadership skills balanced with deep technical expertise Experience of operating at a senior management level across a complex organisation Significant influencing skills and upwards management Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders Ability to identify commercial risks and propose innovative practical legal solutions Able to challenge senior stakeholders across the business In depth and up to date knowledge of legal requirements in the UK financial sector Knowledge and understanding of internal and external legal risk Ability to lead, manage, motivate and develop a team through organisational change with positive impact on culture/values/engagement
