Elevate's client, a tier 1 Investment Bank is looking to hire an interim Commodities Lawyer with 3-8 years post qualification experience with a major UK or US law firm and/or investment bank and/or utility/oil major/commodity trading firm. You must be able to demonstrate a strong track record in commodities transactions. An excellent opportunity to earn a good contract rate and the opportunity to work in-house providing first class advice within a premier Investment Bank.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Head of Legal for EMEA Commodities, the role will support:
- The sales and trading of physically and financially settled commodities and related products throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle-East;
- Structured transactions, private equity investments and asset acquisitions and strategic alliances/joint ventures entered into by the Commodities Division.
Skills and Experience:
- 3-8 years post qualification experience with a major UK or US law firm and/or investment bank and/or utility/oil major/commodity trading firm.
- Ideally, a candidate should have experience in some of the following areas although a willingness to take on new work is essential:
- the trading of exchange traded and OTC commodities including: natural gas, power, emissions allowances/renewable certificates, coal, LNG, freight and metals (base and precious);
- drafting and negotiating physical and financial master agreements (including ISDA, EFET, SCoTA, gas hub terms and conditions (such as NBP, ZBT and TTF) and physical wet and dry shipping documents) and related credit support and netting documentation[1];
- exchange member agreements as well as dealing with broader exchange and clearing issues;
- grid, gas hub and storage documentation, tolling agreements, VPP and capacity auctions;
- physical wet and dry shipping documentation including Incoterms, charter parties, letters of credit, shipping and trading GTCs and storage agreements;
- relevant financial services and commodities regulation in the UK and EU as well as a broader awareness of current issues for the commodities and financial services industry; and
- asset acquisitions, equity investments and joint venture and cooperation agreements.
[1] This is not a document negotiation role as documents are negotiated by a separate. The role does require the candidate to have a thorough understanding of these documents and their mechanics, and netting issues, as we advise the group on issues and assist in preparing template documentation.
Excellent day rate on offer or fixed term contract.
